Just as Rescue Squad 3 was returning from a minor motor vehicle collision, Communications sounded tones for another collision on Crain Highway in front of the Hamilton Building just south of Leonardtown Road. Rescue Squad 3 arrived on scene moments later with a two-vehicle T-bone collision with a 17-year-old female trapped in the front passenger seat. As the crews from Ambulances 39 and 37 provided patient care, Rescue Squad 3's crew removed both doors on the passenger side of the Honda. Once the doors were removed, the patient was placed on a backboard and extricated from the vehicle. A helicopter was requested to transport the victim to an area Trauma Center by the EMS units on scene. After the patient was evaluated by Paramedics from Medic One, it was determined the victim did not need to be flown and the helicopter was cancelled enroute. The driver of the Honda was also injured in the collision and both victims were transported by Ambulance 39 and 37 to Civista Medical Center in La Plata. The cause of the collision in under investigation by the Maryland State Police.
