Waldorf Firefighter Injured in Single-Vehicle
Collision on Middletown Road

January 15, 2004 1918hrs:

For the 3rd time in just over a month, members of Waldorf Station 12 responded to the aid of one of their own. Firefighter Timothy Edwards, son of Waldorf President and Safety 12 Tom Edwards, was injured when the vehicle he was driving struck a tree just south of Smallwood Drive. A motorist came upon the scene of the collision just moments after it occurred but did not have a cell phone to call 911. F/F Edwards instructed the motorist to go to Station 12, less than a half-mile away and report the collision. The motorist arrived at the station within a minute and advised the crews in the station of the collision. Engine 121 and Ambulance 128 immediately responded to the scene where they discovered Timmy Edwards inside the vehicle. Engine 121 advised Communications to make notifications to have Chief 3, Chief 12B, and Safety 12 respond to the scene. Timmy was backboarded and transported by Ambulance 128, with Medic 21, to Civista Medical Center in La Plata with non-life threatening injuries. The cause of the collision is under investigation by the Charles County Sheriffs Office.

The good news is Timmy was released around Mid-night from the Emergency Room and taken home. After undergoing X-rays and a CAT scan, doctors determined there was no damage to his spinal and cervical cord. Aside from a few bumps and bruises, Timmy is in good condition and resting at home.

On behalf of all the members of the Waldorf VFD, we wish Timmy Edwards a speedy recovery!!
