We are extremely pleased to report the 10-year old child who was rescued from the pond on Saturday has been released from the hospital. Stephen Nichols was released from Children's Hospital Sunday morning around 0130hours and allowed to return home. When Stephen was arrived at Children's Hospital, his body core temperature was approximately 34 degrees centigrade (the normal body temperature is 36.4 degrees centigrade). After being X-rayed, doctors were concerned with a small amount of water in Stephen's lungs that could cause Pneumonia. Stephen will continue with outpatient checkups to ensure no infection occurs. Today, Firefighters who participated in the rescue efforts were interviewed by several various local media crews. The story aired on WNBC4, WUSA9, and WJLA7 newscast. Firefighters also met Stephen and his family for the first time since the incident on Saturday. The parents, Jack and Lauren, expressed their deep appreciation to all the rescue workers who took part in saving their sons life.
