Units were alerted for a motor vehicle collision with injuries on Old Washington Road just north of Smallwood Drive. Engine 33 arrived on scene to find a single vehicle in the ditch with an elderly couple trapped inside. The vehicle was reported to have been involved in a collision with a second vehicle in the intersection, then struck a telephone pole, and finally coming to rest with the passenger side pressed against the ditch. The driver's side door had sustained heavy damage and rescue workers used the Hurst Maverick tool to remove it. Once the extrication was complete, EMS personnel placed both patients on backboards as they were removed from the vehicle. Both patients were transported to Civista Medical Center in La Plata with non-life threatening injuries.
