Waldorf Firefighters Respond to
Hughesville for Multiple Alarm Brush Fire

February 21, 2004 1450hrs:

Waldorf units responded to Whalen Road in Hughesville for a multiple alarm brush fire. Numerous units from Charles County and St Marys County converged on the location to find a large field on fire with approximately 15 bales of hay involved. Brush 3 and Engine 124 worked aggressively along the fireline with hand tools and booster lines in an effort to stop the advancing fire. Both units made numerous trips from the fireground to the tanker resupply location. Tanker 12 was one of 3 tankers on the scene and provided its load of 2900 gallons to numerous brush trucks and Class A pumpers. Waldorf units were released from the scene just before 1800 hours and returned to quarters. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Maryland Forestry Service. It was reported that a resident burning a pile of logs might have caused the fire.
