Garage Fire on Bensville Road

February 27, 2004 2041hrs:

Waldorf firefighters responded for a report of a house fire in the 7900 block of Bensville Road. Chief 11B arrived on the scene with Engine 112 and advised there was a working fire in a 2-vehicle garage to the rear of a residence. Engine 121 and Engine 122 arrived on scene moments later and the crews used 2-1¾" preconnect lines to knock the fire down from the exterior. Firefighters entered the structure but were forced to evacuate due to an unstable roof support beam. Crews continued an exterior-only operation and extinguished the bulk of the fire. A water shuttle system was established due to the location being a non-hydrant area. The cause of the fire was determined to be from a wood-burning stove inside the structure.
