April 27, 2004 0718 hrs:
Crews from Waldorf had just climbed into bed after running 5 calls within 3 hours when Communications dispatched a motor vehicle collision with subjects trapped on St Charles Parkway and St Ignatius Drive. While enroute, Communications advised there were Sheriff's Office units on the scene with a vehicle in the woods and one confirmed subject trapped. Squad 3 arrived minutes later to find a Chevrolet Corsica had struck a tree near the driver's side door and the single occupant was pinned inside the badly mangled vehicle. The Squad crew quickly deployed the Hurst Extractor and Maverick tools and removed the roof of the vehicle. Engine 121 arrived and assisted the Squad crew with removing both front doors. Once it was determined the victim's legs were not pinned under the dashboard, the driver was extracted from the vehicle on a backboard and turned over to the waiting EMS and Medic units. MSP Trooper 2 landed in the southbound lanes just short of the accident scene. The patient was flown to an area trauma center with serious trauma injuries. The cause of the collision is under investigation by the Charles County Sheriff's Office.
Waldorf Responding Units: Rescue Squad 3, Engine 121, and Ambulance 37.
Mutual Aid Units: Hughesville Ambulance 28, Medic 21, and MSP Trooper 2.
