April 27, 2004 0752 hrs:
As crews were picking up tools from the extrication on St Charles Parkway, Communications dispatched a structure fire assignment to Lisa's Place on Old Washington Road. Ambulance 37 was the first unit to arrive on scene and reported light smoke showing from the front door. Engine 33 arrived on scene moments later and advised they were "dropping the cotton". Upon entering the 1-story restaurant, the crew found a grease fire on one of the large gas stovetops. The fire was quickly extinguished with a dry chemical extinguisher. Crews from E-33 and E-121 checked for extension in the walls and attic space while Tower 24 checked the roof vents. It was determined the fire did not extend beyond the stove area. The cause of the fire was found to be grease buildup on the stovetop that ignited around the gas burner. The County Health Inspector was requested to respond to the scene to determine what products inside the building could be salvaged for future use. Units cleared the scene at 0833 hours and returned to quarters.
The restaurant will be temporarily closed for a few days to allow for a full cleanup of the facility. This is a favorite local eatery for the men of Fire 3, especially several certain Life Members. We would like to extend our best wishes for a speedy return to service and look forward to the Post-Fire Opening!!
