Deck Fire Damages Townhouse on Brookside Place

June 15, 2004 1642 hrs:

Units from Waldorf were dispatched for a reported working townhouse fire on Brookside Place. Engine 32 arrived on scene with heavy smoke showing from the rear of a middle-of-the-row 2-story townhouse. Engine 32's crew advanced a 1-¾" handline into the residence and out the backdoor. The fire was located on the attached deck on the rear of the house. The fire was quickly knocked down and contained to the deck area. Engine 31, Engine 122, and Accokeek Tower 24 were held for overhaul. It was determined that improperly extinguished smoking materials caused the fire. Units cleared the scene within an hour and returned to quarters.
