June 20, 2004 2140 hrs:
Units were dispatched for a reported motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian on Crain Highway at Pierce Road. Rescue Squad 3 arrived on the scene to find a subject lying in the southbound lanes of Crain Highway that had been struck by one vehicle and run over by another. The pedestrian was declared deceased on arrival and firefighters turned their attention to the 2 occupants of the vehicle that struck the pedestrian. The driver of the vehicle was shaken up by the collision and the passenger sustained minor injuries to the arm from the windshield glass. Bystanders advised the 2nd vehicle left the scene after running over the pedestrian. Ambulance 129 transported both patients to Southern Maryland Hospital Center in Clinton for checkup. The collision is under investigation by Maryland State Police.

June 20, 2004 2201 hrs:
Just as units were preparing to clear the scene of the fatal pedestrian collision, a second pedestrian collision was dispatched for Crain Highway and Mattawoman Drive, a quarter mile north of the first incident. Rescue Squad 3 arrived on the scene within a minute to find a male subject lying facedown in the southbound lanes of Crain Highway. Due to the extent of the patient's injuries, a medevac helicopter was requested immediately. Crews from Rescue Squad 3, Ambulance 38, and Medic 1 worked together to package the critically injured patient for transport. Engine 32 responded to setup the landing site at the Chaney Building for MSP Trooper 2. The patient was flown to MedStar Trauma Center in Washington DC.
