June 26, 2004 0100 hrs:
Units from Waldorf were alerted for a motor vehicle collision with injuries at the intersection of Crain Highway and Leonardtown Road. Rescue Squad 3 arrived within minutes to find numerous CCSO units already on the scene. After performing a quick scene size up, the Squad crew found 2 seriously injured juveniles in and out of consciousness in one vehicle & 2 stable patients in the second vehicle with the passenger trapped. Lt Ben Jenkins setup the Command and requested 3 additional ambulances to respond to the scene as the Squad crew worked quickly on backboarding the 2 seriously injured juveniles. Engine 32 arrived on the scene and worked to extricate the trapped passenger as Ambulances 37, 129, and Medic worked with the Squad crew to package the juveniles for helicopter transport. Engine 121 setup the landing site in the northbound lanes of Crain Highway at the scene for MSP Trooper 2. Trooper 2 flew both juveniles to an area trauma center. Ambulance 129 transported the extricated passenger to Civista Medical Center in La Plata. After the patients were enroute to the hospital, firefighters learned the collision occurred when a CCSO unit attempted a traffic stop and the juveniles attempted to flee.
