June 28, 2004 2022 hrs:

For the second time in a day, units from Waldorf were dispatched for a major motor vehicle collision on Crain Highway. This time, the collision was reported to be at Crain Highway in front of the new Bojangle's eatery with one vehicle possibly on fire. Rescue Squad 3 & Engine 32 arrived on scene within minutes to find a 2-vehicle collision in the northbound lanes on Crain Highway with multiple patients scattered in the median strip and one lying in the southbound lanes. Fortunately, the vehicle that was reported on fire was mistaken for steam from the radiator. Firefighters quickly spread throughout the scene performing triage as Ambulance 38 arrived on scene. The driver of the SUV was ejected during the collision & was in critical condition. 3 additional patients were found in the median strip after being pulled from their vehicles by bystanders. Command immediately requested medevac support to transport 3 of the patients to a trauma center. MSP Trooper 2 arrived on the scene within minutes and landed in the southbound lanes of Crain Highway. The ejected driver was quickly packaged and loaded into the helicopter. As soon as Trooper 2 lifted off and cleared the scene, US Park Police Eagle 1 landed to transport the remaining 2 patients. All 3 medevac patients were taken to PG General Trauma Center. The 4th patient was transported by Ambulance 37 to Civista Medical Center in La Plata with non-life threatening injuries. Rescue Squad 3 remained on the scene to assist CCSO and MSP with scene lighting for the accident reconstruction team.
