June 30, 2004 1840 hrs:
Units were dispatched for the commercial building fire at the former location of the Giant Food Store. Engine 32 arrived on scene shortly after and found a light smoke condition throughout the inside of the building. Firefighters advanced a 400ft 1-¾" handline into the building and began to search for the source of the smoke utilizing a thermal imager. The fire was located up in the roof area above the freezers. Crews from La Plata Truck 1 and Accokeek Tower 24 cut holes in the roof area to gain access to the fire. The fire was quickly extinguished with no further extension found with the thermal imager. Units began taking up and cleared the scene at 1918hrs.
