Working Garage Fire in
Berry Hill Manor Neighborhood

December 21, 2003 1022hrs:

Waldorf units responded for a reported chimney fire in a single-family residence on Cottongrass Street in the Berry Hill Manor neighborhood. While units were enroute, 911 received numerous calls reporting a garage fire instead of a chimney fire. First arriving Engine 121 and Truck 3 found a 2-story residence with heavy smoke and fire showing from the attached garage. Engine 121's crew advanced a 1-¾" preconnect line into the garage as Truck 3 began ventilating and opening up the large garage doors. The fire was contained mostly to the garage with some extension into the main residence. The MD State Fire Marshall determined the cause of the fire to be ashes removed from a wood burning stove and placed in the garage. Units remained on the scene for just over 2 hours before returning to quarters.
