Hazmat Assignment Involving
Pool Chemicals

  



  

July 14, 2003 2033hrs:

A hazmat assignment was dispatched for a house on Hickory Avenue in Waldorf. While enroute, the responding units were advised that pool chemicals were involved and at least one victim was reported with trouble breathing. Chief 3A set a staging area at Hickory Ave and Gardiner Road prior to units arriving on the scene. Engine 32, Squad 3, Chief 3A Clark Embrey, and Chief 3B DJ Mills proceeded to the scene and met with the occupant. Chief 3A established the Hickory Ave Command and Chief 3B was the Operations Commander. The occupant advised that the chemicals were mixed in the backyard and his daughter was overcome by the chlorine mixture. Chief 3A advised Ambulance 39 and Medic 21 to proceed to the scene to care for the victim. The crews from Engine 32 and Squad 3 proceeded to the backyard where the pool chemicals were located in a 5 gallon bucket. It was determined the chemicals were properly mixed and were placed into the pool to disperse. The EMS units obtained a signed release from the victim. The assignment cleared the scene at 2102hrs.
