Waldorf Fire and EMS units were alerted for a reported kitchen fire on Hartford Court in the Wakefield Subdivision. First arriving Engine 33 found a two-story house with no fire or smoke showing with one subject down on the driveway. The crew quickly stretched a 1¾" Crosslay into the residence as F/F James Thorne checked the victim for injuries. Rescue Squad 3, with Chief 3A Clark Embrey, arrived on scene moments after E-33 and assisted with checking for fire extension inside the kitchen. A Medic unit was requested for the victim, who was suffering from numerous 1st degree grease burns on both of her legs and feet. The cause of the fire was grease cooking on the stovetop. The victim attempted to put the fire out with salt and then tried to carry the pan outside. The victim dropped the pan on the kitchen floor and was splattered with the burning grease. Ambulance 518 transported the patient to a local hospital.
Responding Units: Engine 33, Rescue Squad 3, Engine 122, Engine 401 (Brandywine), Squad 2 (Hughesville), Truck 1 (La Plata), and Ambulance 518.
