August 19, 2003 1701hrs:
Units from Waldorf were alerted for a motor vehicle collision with injuries at the intersection of Crain Highway and Marshall Corner Road. As Rescue Squad 3 was arriving on scene, dispatch advised that Maryland State Police were reporting at least 3 injuries and requesting a helicopter. Squad 3's crew quickly surveyed the scene and found a two-car collision with 5 people injured and one trapped. Ambulance 129 and Medic 21 arrived on the scene as Squad 3 prepared to use the Hurst tool to remove the passenger side door. Captain Pagel established the Crain Highway Command and requested a third ambulance to respond to the scene. Ambulance 39 arrived on scene and began assisting the 4 other injured subjects on scene. While Squad 3's crew removed both passenger doors and the "B" post, Medic 21 assessed the patient and started ALS care. The trapped person was removed from the vehicle within 5 minutes from the time extrication started. Engine 33 responded to the scene to setup the landing site in the northbound lanes of Crain Highway. MSP Trooper 2 flew the patient to PG General Hospital with serious but stable injuries. A-39 transported three Priority-3 patients while A-518 transported the remaining patient to local area hospitals.
