August 23, 2003:
Kentland Chief Riley contacted Waldorf Fire 3 and requested an Engine to transfer to Station 46 for the day while their units were out of service for the funeral services of live-in Station 33 member Brian Jones. Firefighter/Driver David Klinikowski, Sgt Ben Jenkins, Firefighters James Thorne, Justin Zdobysz, and Andrew Rimm volunteered to provide a crew with Engine 32 for as long as was needed. While Engine 32 provided coverage of Station 46 from 7am until 5pm, Waldorf Station 3 maintained 2 additional crews and ran 16 calls. Running as Engine 461, the transfer crew ran a total of 4 calls, including 2 working vehicle fires on the beltway. Shortly after being relieved by the members of Station 46, a box alarm on Prince Place was transmitted in 46's first due. Engine 32 (PG Engine 822) requested and was granted permission to run the assignment as they were still in the Kentland area. Engine 32 and Ritchie Engine 371 arrived simultaneously, taking the position of second due, behind Engine 461 as units were instructed to stage. The fire was determined to be burnt food on the stove and Command held E-461 and Truck 33. Engine 32 stood by at Station 46 until all the units cleared the box alarm.
The members of the Waldorf Volunteer Fire Department would like to send their condolences to the family and members of the Kentland Volunteer Fire Department on the loss of Firefighter Brian Jones.
