August 26, 2003 0408hrs:
Waldorf crews received an early wake-up call for a working house fire on Rusty Leaf Court in the Sentry Woods Subdivision. Engine 33, under the command of Sgt Ben Jenkins, and Chief 3B, DJ Mills, arrived on scene to find a 2-story single-family residence with smoke and fire showing from the garage. E-33's crew advanced a 200ft 1-3/4" attack line into the residence in an attempt to gain entry to the garage and push the fire away from the interior of the residence. The crew quickly determined there was no entryway into the garage from the interior of the residence. A second line was extended to the side door of the garage as several members of E-33's crew emerged from the residence. The crew knocked the bulk of the fire down as Engine 31 arrived on scene and established the water supply to E-33. Crews from E-31 and E-122 assisted with checking for fire extension into the residence as Brandywine Squad 40 removed the main garage door with a K-12 saw. Squad 40 and La Plata Truck 1 setup scene lighting and assisted with the extensive overhaul of the garage. Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office responded to the scene to investigate the cause of the fire. At this time, the cause of the fire is still pending. Hughesville Engine 23 provided a fill-in at Station 3 until the Waldorf units cleared the scene at 0624 hours.
Responding Units: Chief 3B, Engine 33, Engine 31, Engine 122, Hughesville Engine 23, Brandywine Squad 40, La Plata Truck 1, and Ambulance 39.
