Oil Spill in the White Oak Subdivision

September 9, 2003 1059hrs:

While returning from a motor vehicle collision on Acton Lane, Engine 32 was rerouted to the White Oak subdivision to investigate a possible oil spill involving an overturned 55-gallon barrel. Engine 32 met with some of the area residence who advised there was a large quantity of oil spilled in the storm drain at the intersection of Pin Oak Drive and Bar Oak Drive, but no 55 gallon barrel. Chief 3B, DJ Mills, requested Special Unit 9 and representatives from the Maryland Department of the Environment to respond to the scene. Special Unit 9 arrived on scene and applied large absorbent pads over the affected area in order to soak the oil out of the water. The scene was turned over to the care of the Charles County Sheriffs Office and MDE representatives. Engine 32 cleared the scene at 1328 hours and returned to quarters.
