September 12, 2003 1210hrs:
Units from Station 12 and EMS 3 were alerted for a reported motor vehicle collision on Middletown Road in the S-Curves with one patient possibly unconcious. Ambulance 168, on a transfer to EMS 12, was the first arriving unit on the scene and advised they had a single vehicle collision with a large tree. A-168's crew found a single occupant in the vehicle with major trauma injuries to the head and requested a Priority One response by all other units enroute to the scene. Paramedic Ambulance 128, returning from the hospital, arrived on scene shortly after and immediately began ALS treatment of the victim. Units on the scene requested a helicopter to fly the patient to a trauma center. Chief 3A, Clark Embrey, arrived on scene and assisted the EMS units with removing the patient from the vehicle. Engine 121 arrived on scene and assisted with loading the patient into A-128. Engine 32 responded to Berry Elementary School to setup the landing site. Engine 121 cleared the accident scene and responded to assist with landing site. Despite the poor weather conditions, Trooper 2 made the journey and transported the patient to a trauma center in Washington DC. Engine 121 returned to the accident scene at the request of the Sheriffs Office and assisted with removing a door from the vehicle with the Hurst Tool.
