September 16, 2003 1922hrs:
Units from Fire 3 were alerted to investigate reports of an explosion to the rear of homes along Holly Avenue in the White Oak subdivision. While units were enroute, Communications advised they were receiving numerous calls from the entire area, some reporting a possible aircraft down. Engine 32 arrived in the area with a loud roaring noise coming from the wooded area along the railroad tracks near Holly Avenue. Truck 3 and Engine 33 responded to the Cedarville Road area to check the large fields North of the White Oak subdivision. Truck 3 located the source of the roaring noise at the Mattawoman Processing Power Station, along with Prince Georges County Engine 401. Truck 3 met with representatives of the Power Station who advised they had a large pipe burst inside the complex. The Power Station personnel handled the situation with no further fire department services needed. All units cleared the scene and returned to quarters.
