While returning from Civista Medical Center in La Plata, Ambulance 399 was stopped at Crain Highway and Marshals Corner Road when two vehicles collided in front of them. Ambulance 399's crew immediately checked for injuries and found 4 occupants needing medical care, one with a head injury and possibly trapped. Rescue Squad 3, with Chief 3A Clark Embrey, arrived on scene and discovered the one patient who was possibly trapped was combative, due to the head injury, and had already freed herself. A helicopter was requested to fly the head-injury patient to a trauma center. La Plata Engine 13 setup a landing site in the northbound lanes of Crain Highway while the Squad crew assisted the ambulances with packaging and loading the 4 patients. MSP Trooper 2 transported the head-injury patient to PG General Hospital while the ambulances transported the remaining 3 patients to Civista Medical Center in La Plata. The cause of the collision was under investigation when units cleared the scene.
