Fire 3 Members attend Firehouse Expo

On Tuesday, July 22, members of Fire Station 3 participated in "Get Out Alive", a fireground training course sponsored by Firehouse Magazine. FDNY Battalion Chief John Salka and his team of instructors led the 8-hour course at the DCFD Fire Training Academy. The instructors led the firefighters through personal survival tactics such as wall breaching, window rope slide, ladder bail and room orientation. These tactics, developed and refined by Chief Salka in his “Get Out Alive” program, have been used successfully by firefighters throughout the country and have become the "Benchmark" for firefighter survival programs. Fire 3 members in attendance were Captain Ryan Pagel, Sergeant Ben Jenkins, Firefighter Thomas Hedrick and Firefighter James Thorne.

On Wednesday, July 23, Captain Ryan Pagel from Fire Station 3, participated in SCBA/Mask Confidence training, also held at the DCFD Fire Training Academy & sponsored by Firehouse Magazine. This 8-hour course is designed to train firefighters and then put them through realistic and practical evolutions that simulate regulator failure, entanglement, buddy breathing and regulator change over on a downed firefighter.
