While Rescue Squad 3 was responding to a motor vehicle collision, the house fire assignment was dispatched for 3245 Indian King Court. Rescue Squad 3 arrived on scene of the mvc and checked with Charles County Sheriffs Office units on scene. Per CCSO, the Squad rerouted to the house fire. As units were marking up, Communications advised that CCSO units on scene were advising heavy black smoke showing the residence with fire showing from the rear. Rescue Squad 3 arrived on scene with a single-story duplex residence with fire showing from Sides Alpha, Bravo, & Charlie. Engine 121 arrived on scene right immediately after and advanced a 1-3/4" attack line to the front door and met up with Squad 3's crew. Chief 12A established the Indian King Court Command. Truck 1 arrived on scene and split their crew into 2 groups - 1 opening up inside for the attack crew and 1 to the roof to ventilate. Engine 33 laid a secondary supply line and advanced a second 1-3/4" attack line into the Side B exposure residence. The bulk of the fire was extinguished within a few minutes with heavy overhaul required in the attic and storage room. Minor extension of fire was found in the exposure residence attic area with heavy smoke conditions. Additional responding units to the scene provided manpower for overhaul operations. Once the bulk of the overhaul was completed, Command scaled the incident back to Companies 3, 12, and Truck 1. Maryland State Fire Marshal Office responded to the scene to investigate the cause of the fire. Initial reports indicate that a child playing with a lighter in the bedroom may have caused the fire. Units remained on the scene for nearly 3 hours before returning to quarters.

While units were still on scene of the fire, La Plata Engine 11 responded to Mall Circle for the auto fire and Newburg Engine 143 and Engine 11 responded to Westlake High School for a 2nd auto fire.
