Waldorf Volunteers were dispatched for the working fire in the 300 block of Tumbleweed Place. Engine 31, under the command of Deputy Fire Chief Mills, arrived to find a 2 story town home, middle of the row, with smoke showing from the rear. E-31's crew stretched the 200' pre-connect 1¾" attack line through the front door, locating fire in the rear of the home. A knock of the fire was made, confining it to the outside of the structure. Moderate smoke conditions were present in the structure with heavy conditions on the upper floor. During the primary search a puppy was located on the second floor rear bedroom. The dog was removed from the house and placed into the care of E.M.S. who provided oxygen to the pup. Secondary searches were conducted and proved negative. Rescue Squad 3 and Truck 1 (La Plata) assisted with ventilation, securing the utilities and checking for extension. The Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office investigated the cause. The Charles County Animal Control Office transported the puppy to an emergency veterinarian place for continued care. Reports are that the puppy is doing well.

Chief Stevens had the command and Deputy Chief Mills had Operations.
