reported by Deputy Chief DJ Mills

Units from Waldorf Volunteer Fire Department were alerted to 2817 Homette Place in Idlewood Trailer Park for the working house fire, to find just that. Chief 3B was the first to arrive with fire showing from sides A, C, and D and a corrected address of 2805 Homette Place. E-31 arrived next and advanced an 1¾ hand line into the home and began knocking the fire down. Chief 3A arrived soon after and assumed the Idlewood Command and assigned 3B to interior and EMS Chief 3B to the EMS Sector after finding the home owner in a neighbors home with burns to his torso area. As other units were arriving on the scene, E-31’s hand line burst open, and the fire that was just knocked down lit off again. Two additional hand lines were stretched into the home just as E-31 knocked the fire down that had lit behind them. E-122 and 12B finished hitting the hot spots that kept lighting due to a leaking propane tank. E-23 performed a primary and secondary search while E-362 performed RIT duties and secured the outdoor utilities, propane tanks and electricity. One firefighter was treated and released on the scene for minor burns to the hands. The homeowner who was later found in the neighbor’s home was air lifted to Med-Star by Trooper 8. The Maryland State Fire Marshall is investigating the fire. Units cleared in about 2 hours
