Engine Company 12, and Truck Company 3 were dispatched for a Working fire in a Single Family Residence in the area of Double R Road. Rescue Engine 121, Truck 3, Tanker 12, Safety 12, Chief 12B, Chief 12A, Chief 3A, and Chief 3 responded as well as the remainder of the assignment. Chief 12B arrived on scene first, and reported a single story house well involved with the bulk of the fire in the Delta/Alpha quadrants. The neighbors initially were unsure if the the occupants were home, so Chief 12B advised Truck 3 they would have the primary search. Chief 12A held the Double R Road Command. RE-121 arrived on scene laying 3" supply line, and advancing a 2" attack line with a smooth bore nozzle. With heavy fire at the front door, the crew from Rescue Engine 121 immediately started knocking the fire down to gain entry. Truck 3 was assigned primary search, but due to the structure being well involved their crew pulled an additional attack line to assist with knocking the fire down for entry. Having both crews attempting to make entry with little progress gained, and interior conditions deteriorating rapidly. The evacuation order was given, and defensive operations were put into place. Command asked for an additional Tanker, and Truck to help extinguish the fire. Crews extinguished the fire, and extensive overhaul was performed. Overall crews worked on the fire ground for 3 hours and 14 minutes. One firefighter was burned, requiring a medevac to Washington Hospital Center in Washington D.C. The firefighter suffered 2nd degree burns to both hands and 3rd degree to the right ear requiring admission. One other firefighter was injured and transported to a local hospital with a possible shoulder injury. Two other firefighters were treated on the scene. The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time, and still under investigation.
