On May 9, 2010 at 2319 hours, the Waldorf Volunteers were alerted for a house fire on Country Lane in the Country Club Section of Waldorf. The initial dispatch was a little confusing because it was reported an outside fire and mentioned a brush fire but was dispatched as a structure fire. Engine 32 responded immediately with five persons and the Lieutenant. While enroute the address was changed to Evergreen Drive (a street parallel to Country Lane) and upgraded to a working fire based on law enforcement on the scene. Engine 32 arrived on the scene and reported a two-story single-family wood frame construction with fire showing from sides Delta and Charlie. They also advised that the occupants were out of the house and accounted for. They advanced a 1-3/4" line into the residence and made an aggressive attach on heavy fire on the first floor in the Charlie and Delta quadrants. They requested the next engine advance a line to the second floor. Chief 3A arrived, established the Pinefield Command and directed Engine 31 to pick up 32's line. Engine 121 was directed to advance a second line off E-32 to the second floor. Fire had now advanced to the attic and was showing from the attic vents on the Bravo end and through the roof on the Delta end of the structure. Squad 2 and Truck 1 were directed to perform a primary search, open up for the engine crews, ladder the building and set up lights. Once the attic was opened the fire was darkened and the units began the extensive overhaul. Southern Maryland Electric and the State Fire Marshal's Office responded to assist. | |||
