reported by Capt. Greg Dypsky

Very early Sunday morning, Station 12 and EMS 12, along with Station 3 and EMS 3 were alerted to the intersection of Davis Road and Jermaine Place for a reported MVA with entrapment and vehicle on fire.

Captain 3 was in the area and arrived first to find a single vehicle that had struck a tree head-on. There were two citizens extinguishing a fire in the engine compartment, lots of fluids leaking from the vehicle, and upon closer inspection, the drivers legs were trapped under the dash. Captain 3 relayed this information to communications as well as the incoming units. The citizens on the scene told Captain 3 that there had been a passenger in the vehicle and that the passenger had forced open his door and ran down the street. Charles County Sheriffs arrived and were advised of the missing passenger and started to search for him. Paramedic A-128 arrived and started patient care and advised Captain 3 of the need for a helicopter, which was requested through communications. The next arriving unit was Squad 3 and the crew stabilized the vehicle, disconnected the battery and began extrication efforts. Engine 121 arrived an assisted the crew from Squad 3 with extrication along with controlling the large amount of fluid leaking from the vehicle. After the drivers's door was removed, it was realized that the dash was just resting on the drivers' legs. The driver was placed onto a backboard and turned over to the crews of Paramedic A-128 and Paramedic A-38. Engine 121 handled the landing site for Trooper 2 in the field across the street from the accident.

Other Units responding on scene: Safety 12, E-124 and A-37.
