Several MVA's followed by
House Fire on Heritage Place

May 31, 1700 hrs.

Units from Waldorf responded to several back-to-back calls throughout Waldorf, just prior to responding to an apartment fire on Heritage Place. RS-3, E-31, E-32 and E-121 responded to four separate MVA's between the hours of 1637 and 1653. As units were clearing the MVA's, they were dispatched at 1700 hrs for the reported apartment fire at 1124 Heritage Place. Chief 3B (DJ Mills) arrived on scene to find a one story quad with smoke showing. Crews from E-31 and E-121 forced entry and advanced a 200' 1¾" line into the structure to encounter heavy smoke in living room area, and the Engine crews extinguished the fire. RS-3 arrived on scene and split crews. One crew performed ventilation duties and the other performed search & rescue. Both primary & secondary searches were negative. E-23's crew checked exposures and Truck-1's crew performed overhaul. The occupant on scene advised WVFD that a child was inside the residence playing with a lighter, which in turn caused the fire. Once the fire investigator arrived on scene it was turned over to him and units returned to service.
