House Fire on Tompkins Lane

 

 

 

 

 

June 12 0212 hrs:

Units from Waldorf were dispatched for a house fire in the Carrington neighborhood. Engine 122 arrived on the scene & laid out 900' of 3" from Tompkins and Garner Ave to 313 Tompkins. E-122 arrived on the scene Side A with heavy fire showing from the attic of a 2 story single family dwelling. The occupants advised that the fire was in the back bedroom on the second floor and that everyone had made it out of the building. E-122 advanced a 200' 1-3/4" cross-lay into the structure to find a bedroom well involved with extension into the attic. After extinguishing the fire in the rear bedroom, E-122's crew began pulling the ceiling and attacking the attic fire. E-31 arrived on the scene and picked up E-122's line and charged it. E-31's crew advanced a 200' 2" attack line to back up E-122 on the second floor of the structure. E-31's crew immediately began assisting with pulling ceilings and fire attack in the attic area. Rescue Squad 40 arrived on the scene and secured the utilities and conducted the primary search of the structure. Rescue Squad 3 arrived on the scene and assisted with lights into the structure and exterior lighting on sides A & C. Chief 12 B arrived on the scene and assumed command until the arrival of Chief 3. Truck 1 arrived on the scene and placed ladders to the second floor and assisted with overhaul of the second floor and attic areas. Engine 23 arrived on the scene and laid a second supply line from E-31. Engine 23's crew advanced a 2nd backup line from E-122. All searched proved negative and the fire was quickly placed under control. Maryland State Fire Marshal are investigating the fire. Crews worked to complete the extensive overhaul of the second floor and attic areas and assisted the family with salvage operations. The family was attended to by the American Red Cross.
