On Friday evening, July, 3, 2009 at 1709 hours, a citizen came to the EMS station advising them of a bad car accident on St. Charles Parkway. EMS Chief 3B and Ambulance 39 marked up with communications advising them of a vehicle into a tree and requested the assignment. The EMS units arrived on the scene finding a single vehicle wrapped around a tree with one trapped priority 1 patient. At that time EMS personnel began patient care. Several members from Fire station 3 heard the request from EMS Chief 3B and immediately responded on the call with the Rescue Squad and Engine 32. Chief 3 and Squad 3 arrived on the scene of the accident just as it was being dispatched followed very shortly by Engine 32. Chief 3 assumed the Waldorf Command with Chief 3B having the Extrication group and EMS Chief 3B having the EMS group. It was determined that the best way to gain access to the patient. would be to remove the passenger side door and then the roof, to gain better access to the driver’s side and work from above. Squad 3 deployed both Spreaders and Cutters to remove the doors and roof. Once both doors and the roof were removed the transformer tool was used to roll the dash. Due to the patients deteriorating condition, it was decided to start removing the patient while the dash was still being rolled. Several EMS members assisted in removing the patient and took over patient care. Rescue Engine 123 set up the Landing Site for Maryland State Police Helicopter Trooper 2 at Smallwood Soccer Field. The patient was transported to Baltimore Shock Trauma by Trooper 2.

All Units on the scene did an outstanding job with a very difficult extrication from the first EMS units on the scene being able to get to the patient to begin life saving efforts and the Squad and Engine crew being able to extricate the victim within less than 15 minutes.
