Several Early Morning Fires

July 19 0302 hrs:

Truck 3 and E-122 were dispatched to 15935 Livingston Road in Accokeek at 0302 hours for the house fire. Due to minor technical difficulties with the Truck, Squad 3 responded to Accokeek. Both Squad 3 and E-122 were enroute to the scene when Charles County Communications returned them to service at 0313 hrs.

At 0346 hrs, E-32 and E-122 were dispatched to 16111 Livingston Road, again for a house fire. E-32 laid lines from E-472 to supply Truck 11 with water for the ladder pipe, and for engine hand lines. As the units were clearing the scene and racking hose, Charles County Communications dispatched them at 0525 hrs to the Great American Steak Buffet at 3135 Crain Highway for the building fire. Numerous units from Charles and Prince Georges Counties responded to the Waldorf builiding fire from the scene in Accokeek.

E-11 was filling in at Station 3 when they were alerted to 3135 Crain Hwy the Great American Steak & Buffet for fire coming from the roof. E-11 arrived on the scene at 0530 with fire through the roof, E-11 layed a 4" supply line to Side Alpha and advanced a 2" line into the building on Side Alpha. E-31 arrived moments later picking up E-11 supply line. Chief 3A arrived and set up command on Side Alpha. Truck 3 arrived shortly there after and set up for ladder pipe operations on Side Alpha. E-121 arrived and laid a supply line to Side Charlie and advanced a 2" line into the building on Side Charlie. At 0536 a 2nd Alarm and 0537 a 3rd Alarm was requested by Chief 3A. Truck 11 arrived and set up for ladder pipe operations on Side Delta. E-122 laid a supply laid to Side Delta and was supplied by E-32. PGCO Truck 25 set up for ladder pipe operations on the corner of Side Bravo and Charlie, and PGCO 26 set up for ladder pipe operations on Side Charlie. Truck 26 ladder pipe was supplied by E-121, Truck 25 was supplied by E-12 who laid a 4" supply line from Route 301. At 0549 Chief 3A ordered the Evacuation Tone to be sounded, once a roll call was done all 4 ladder pipes were placed in service. After a period of time all ladder pipes were shut down and handheld master streams were placed in service to reach areas that the ladder pipes were unable to extinguish due to the roof collapse. Once all master streams were shutdown two hand lines were used to mop up the remaining hot spots. At 0748 command was terminated, with the last unit clearing the scene at 0843. Cause of the fire in still under investigation by the State Fire Marshals Office. Estimated dollar loss of 1.5 million dollars.
