Fatal Collision on St. Charles Parkway

Volunteers from Engine Company 3, EMS 3 and EMS 12 were dispatched to the area of St. Charles Parkway and St. Ignatius Drive for a report personal injury accident. Engine 31, Ambulance 38 and PA 167 were on the initial response. Ambulance 38 and EMS Safety 3 were the first units to arrive and found a single vehicle involved in a high speed crash into a tree, in the median just south of St. Ignatius Drive, with at least one live occupant severely trapped. Shortly thereafter, a second occupant deeply trapped and condition unknown was found. A request was made for additional resources including a heavy rescue squad, an additional medic and a helicopter. The additional resources included Rescue Squad 3, Medic 16, Trooper 2, Engine 121 and PA 39. Additional units also including Squad 2, Chief 12A and US Park Eagle 2 were also dispatched. The extraction was a difficult one and took about 30 minutes to accomplish. One live occupant was finally removed from the vehicle and transported to PG Trauma by Trooper 2. The second severely trapped occupant was declared priority 4 on the scene. Chief 12A had the onscene Command of this rescue.

Units on the scene included: Ambulance 38, Paramedic Ambulances 167 and 39, Engines 31 and 121, Squad 3 and 2, Chief 3A and 12A, Medic 16, EMS Safety 3, MSP Trooper 2 and US Park Police Eagle 2.
