reported by Chief 3B, D.J. Mills

During the early morning hours of Sunday 9-2-07 all three stations were dispatched to Mattawoman-Beantown Rd. & Poplar Hill Rd. for the overturned gasoline Tanker. E-31, Squad-3, Chief 3A and 3B responded and all arrived on scene within 40 seconds of each other, confirming an overturned Tanker with a possible breach of the Tanker. Squad 3 located a patient that seemed to be pinned under the passenger side saddle tank, however determined that the patient was not pinned and with the assistance of Chief 3B removed the patient and turned him over to EMS crews on the scene as a priority 1 patient.

Originally E-31 was to be used by E-23’s crew to advance a protection line for the extrication, however due to the rapid extrication by Co. 3 units, were pulled away from the scene to await the HAZ-MAT team. Chief 3A had already set up the Waldorf Command with Chief 3B having operations, Chief 12A having logistics and P.G. Chief 36 having Safety. Chief 12A confirmed with the company owning the Tanker that the load was full and had yet to make its first stop. With this information, Command requested additional HAZ-MAT teams. A crash truck was requested for rapid wet down in case of an ignition and the closest available was National Airports' crash truck. Once all units arrived on the scene, command held the units on scene that would be utilized if necessary and returned all others. Units operated on the scene for several hours offloading the product into another Truck.
