Live-Fire Training at MFRI

September 17, 2011 0700-1100 hours

Members from Fire 3 and 12 participated in a live-fire training exercise at the MFRI facility in La Plata, MD. The purpose of the training was to provide hands-on experience to some of our probationary members who are new to the department. 3 different evolutions were setup to simulate real-world situations. The first burn was simulating a simple one-room involved fire. For the second evolution, members entered from the 2nd floor and proceeded downstairs to simulate a working basement fire. The final evolution involved rooms off on both 1st and 2nd floor areas. Crews advanced an attack line in to knockdown the first floor only to find extension into 2 rooms on the 2nd floor. All members involved found the training beneficial and successful. While training scenarios are difficult to truly simulate real-life conditions, this opportunity allowed our probationary members to gain experience and confidence before encountering first-hand working house fires.

The Waldorf VFD would like to extend our appreciation to all of the MFRI instructors and members who participated in Saturday's burn.
