September 27, 1842 hrs | |||
At 18:42 hrs Engine Company 12 was alerted for the local alarm, a "fire reported out" in the unit block of 4100 Bluebird Dr. Rescue Engine 121 arrived find a laundry room and bathroom had been substantially burned out. Having moderate smoke conditions, the remainder of the box was filled. Engine 32 arrived picking up RE 121's supply line. E-32's crew assisted the wagon's crew in checking for extension. Truck Co 1 (LaPlata) was assigned exposures and utilities. Apparently, a fire had begun in the bathroom ceiling fan, involving the plastic cover, extending downward to combustibles. The fire then extended to the sink cabinet, rupturing a water line, causing a stream of water to shoot upwards to the ceiling thus creating a sprinkler type effect. The fire was contained to the room of origin, however damage was estimated to be in excess of $45,000. The Maryland State Fire Marshal Office investigated the incident. The family has been relocated by the American Red Cross Charles County Chapter. There were no injuries to report. Chief 12B (Stewart) had the command Lt. 3 (Duer) had operations.
