Rescue Squad 3 was dispatched for a reported house fire on Hardship Farm Place in Hughesville (Company 2's first due). Squad 3, with Chief 3A on board, arrived on scene immediately behind 1st arriving Tanker 2 with smoke showing from the front of the residence. Tanker 12 was added to the call at this point due to another tanker failing to respond. As Tanker 2's crew advanced an attack line through the front door, Squad 3's crew entered and began the primary search and ventilation. Crews encountered heavy smoke and heat conditions with overall visibility down to zero. Command performed a 360 degree walk-around and advised fire showing from the B and C quadrants. Tanker 2's crew knocked down the fire in the front rooms before passing the line to the Squad crew. Squad 3's crew advanced the line to the rear rooms as Baden E836 and Benedict Engine 52 advanced a second line to the 2nd floor. La Plata Truck 1 arrived on scene and performed the secondary search as the roof team began vertical ventilation. Although high heat and smoke were encountered, no fire was found on the 2nd floor. Units on this call operated on scene for over 3 hours due to the lengthy overall required. Tanker 12 provided one tank of water (2900 gallons) before returning to service.
