Station 12 was dispatched to a report of a heater explosion at 9925 Marshalls Corner Road. Rescue Engine 121, Chief 12A, and Tanker 12 responded along with Stations 1, 3 and 11. Chief 11B was the first to arrive and reported smoke showing from the rear of the house, and requested the working fire assignment.

Rescue Engine 121 arrived on scene and laid a supply line from the street and positioned at the rear of the house and deployed an attack line. Truck 1 established ventilation and secured the utilities. The fire was extinguished with the attack line while E-33's crew checked for extension.

Chief 11B established the Marshalls Corner Road Command until the arrival of Chief 12A, at which time Chief 11B was assigned interior operations. Chief 12A requested the power company and the State Fire Marshall to respond. Southern Maryland Electric arrived on scene and assured the power was secured. FM-51 arrived on scene to conduct an investigation of the fire. At this time the likely cause was a malfunctioning furnace. Crews were placed in service at 1716 by Chief 12A, and command was terminated at that time. Initial damage estimate is $25K.
