Final Inspection of Engine 31 at
RD Murray Plant in Hamburg,NY

July 19, 2004:

8 members of the Fire Apparatus Committee flew to Hamburg,NY for the final inspection of Engine 31. The team was very pleased with the new engine. Several minor blemishes were discovered but no major problems. Several requests that were made during the last visit had been addressed. The chrome mounting bracket for the front rotoray device came out better than anyone anticipated. The members of the committee would like to send special thanks to the guys at the RD Murray facility for a job well done! The committee discussed the next apparatus project with representatives from American LaFrance...the replacement of Rescue Squad 3. Concept ideas include single rear wheel axle, tandem rear wheel axles, or possibly a tiller-style squad. For now, Engine 31 should be completely finished within one week to correct the problems the team identified. From Hamburg, Engine 31 will be taken to the Delmarva facility on the Maryland Eastern Shore. Once there, the apparatus will be decaled, striped, and have the tools mounted. This unit may possibly be displayed at the Delaware State Firefighters Convention in Dover if it can be ready in time.
