Waldorf and surrounding mutual aid companies were alerted for the Mass-Casualty incident on Mattawoman-Beantown Road in the area of Poplar Hill Road involving a commuter bus. First arriving units discovered the collision in the area of the commuter park-and-ride lot with a vehicle into the side of a commuter bus with the driver trapped. Rescue Squad 3 immediately began work on extricating the entrapped patient by removing the rear driver's side door and B-pillar, rolling the dashboard with the spreaders off the patient's legs, and then cutting the brake pedal to free the patient's feet. Trooper 2 was initially called to the scene and then later canceled as the Paramedics on scene transported the patient Priority 1 to Southern Maryland Hospital Center. The patient was later flown to an area Trauma Center where they succumbed to their injuries. The driver of the commuter bus was transported by Ambulance to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The bus was only carrying 10 passengers at the time of the collision and no one else required medical attention. Rescue Squad 3 remained on scene to assist with lighting for the Sheriff's Office reconstruction team. All other units returned to service.
