Engine Companies 12 & 3 were dispatched for a multi-family house fire in the 6100 block of Red Squirrel Place. E-121 arrived on scene with a working fire in a 2 story brick & frame townhouse. E-121's crew advanced a 1 3/4" attack line, and then entered the townhouse. Lt. 12 (Edwards) established the Red Squirrel Command. E-31 arrived as the second due engine, and advanced a back up 1 3/4" line into the townhouse as well. Truck 11 and Engine 112 performed ventilation and overhaul. E-33 performed a primary and secondary search. The homeowner initially complained of some smoke inhalation, and was checked out by Ambulance 37. Squad 40, Squad 7, and Engine 11 were held in staging. Lt. 3 (Thompson) had the interior and Captain 3 (Duer) had Division 2. The fire was quickly knocked down but there was large amounts of smoke in the townhouse, so it took some time to ventilate. One Firefighter was transported to Ft. Washington Hospital, and then transferred to Med Star by Ambulance 128 for minor smoke inhalation. The firefighter was released from the hospital early the next day. The fire marshall was initially called, but upon investigation it was determined that the fire was accidental which the Fire Marshall later confirmed. Units operated on scene for about an hour and fifteen minutes.
