October 1, 2005
On Saturday October 1, 2005 Waldorf firefighters responded to over 20 emergency calls including several brush fires set in the Bannister and Wakefield areas of St. Charles. At 2314 hours Station 12 was alerted for a landing site at Wade Elementary School for an individual who had put his hand through a window and had an arterial bleed. As Trooper 2 was preparing to take off, at 2347 hours a call was received for a house fire on Middletown Road in Station 12's first due area. Rescue Engine 121 cleared the landing site as the Trooper took off and responded on the call. They arrived on the scene and found a one story vacant house with heavy fire showing from the rear. Rescue Engine 121 under the command of Firefighter Greg Wood advanced an 1¾" attack line into the structure. Engine 241 from Accokeek arrived and supplied Engine 121. Engine 32's crew then took a 2 inch line off Engine 121 and advanced it into the building. Both Engines 122 and 32 supplied Engine 241 until the arrival of the Tankers. Tanker 1 and Engine 11 set up a drafting basin on Middletown Road to supply a continuous water supply. Tankers 1, 11 and 7 then performed a Tanker shuttle to fill the drafting basin. A third line was then placed in service off Engine 121 once water supply was established.
The State Fire Marshal's Office was called and the fire was determined to be arson. Chief 3 Dan Stevens had the overall command and Sergeant 12 Chris Foss had operations. There were no injuries and the final units cleared at 0247 hours.
