Units were dispatched for a reported motor vehicle collision on Old Washington Road just south of the Cambridge Medical building. Moments later, the assignment was upgraded to a subjects trapped response. Rescue Squad 3 arrived on scene shortly after to find a single vehicle collision with a utility pole and the backseat passenger trapped inside. As the Squad crew began working on the vehicle with the extrication tools, the patient was evaluated and found to be not breathing. The Squad crew performed a rapid extrication on the rear passenger door to quickly remove the patient. The patient was taken out on a backboard and transferred to the care of the EMS units on scene. Despite the effort of all the personnel on scene, the patient succumbed to the injuries sustained in the collision. The driver and front seat passenger were also injured in the collision and were flown by helicopters to Medstar Hospital in Washington DC. Engine 121 responded from the scene of the collision to the soccer field on Smallwood Drive to setup the landing site for MSP Trooper 2 and US Park Police Eagle 1. Rescue Squad 3 remained on scene until 0622 hours to provide lighting for the Maryland State Police Accident Reconstruction Team.
