6 Vehicle Collision with 3 Victims Trapped
at Crain Highway and Acton Lane

 

 

 

November 24, 2004 2156 hrs:

Units were dispatched for a reported motor vehicle collision with subjects trapped at the intersection of Crain Highway and Acton Lane. Rescue Squad 3 and Engine 33 arrived on scene to find 6 vehicles involved in the collision with 3 occupants trapped. Firefighters quickly began to work on the extrication of the trapped victims as EMS units began arriving on scene and triaging all the patients. A total of 8 patients were involved in this incident. Rescue Squad 3's crew worked on extricating the priority 1 patient while Engine 121's crew extricated the 2 victims trapped in a second vehicle 20 feet away. Command requested 3 additional ambulances and a second medic unit to respond to the scene. Within minutes, all 3 trapped occupants were freed from their mangled vehicles and turned over to EMS for care and transport. 6 patients were taken to area hospitals, while the priority 1 victim was flown to PG Trauma Center and one victim signed a release. The cause of the collision is under investigation by Maryland State Police. Lt. Jenkins was in charge of rescue operations, Chief 3A was the operations command, and Chief 3 was the incident commander. Units cleared the scene and returned to quarters at 2315hrs..
