reported by Deputy Chief DJ Mills

During the afternoon hours of a busy day for the Waldorf Volunteers, Engine 31 was dispatched to Accokeek Rd and Garner Rd for the MVA with people trapped. Engine 31 responded and arrived on the scene just a couple miles over the Charles/P.G. County line to find a head on collision with 2 people trapped in a passenger vehicle. The crew from Engine 31 removed the driver’s and passenger side doors with the paladin tool. Rescue Engine 840 arrived on the scene and was preparing to remove the roof with the O-cutters and roll the dash when the decision was made to rapidly extricate the patients. The decision was based on the fact that both subjects in the passenger vehicle were priority 1 and were also wanted after a police chase that had started in Charles County. As the crew from Engine 31 was working on the 2 trapped victims, Chief 824 B and Mini Pumper 824 were providing aid to another patient. A total of three patients were transported to Trauma centers two by air and one by Ground. Chief 824 had the Accokeek Rd Command.
