Volunteers from Waldorf Companies 3 and 12 were awoken early this morning for a report of a working house fire on Adams Road in the Carrington section of St. Charles. Captain 3 (Greg Dypsky) was the first to arrive on scene and reported a 2 story single family with smoke showing from the first and second floor on side A, and then after a quick check of the rear reported fire showing from a first floor window. Capt. 3 assumed the command until the arrival of a Chief officer and directed the first due Engine (E-31) to the mud room on the first floor. Eng-31 with their own hydrant made a quick knock on the fire with a 1 ¾" cross lay. Chief 3B arrived shortly after and assumed the Adams Rd. Command and assigned Capt. 3 to Operations. Engine 32 and Squad 3 arrived on scene and worked together to check for extension on the second floor. E-122 operated on the first floor along with Chief 12-B as the backup line for E-31. Truck-1 opened up and checked for extension on the first floor and found fire in the walls and ceiling area of the fire room, and also ventilated the house. E-242 reported to the second floor and assisted the units there. Ambulance 39 had 1 patient who signed a release for possible smoke inhalation, a teenager who was awaken by the smell of smoke in the house and quickly woke his family up to get them to safety. Chief-3 arrived on scene and assisted the Command. The Maryland State Fire Marshall determined the cause to be the outlet for the dryer malfunctioning.
