Snowy Day House Fire Displaces Family In Waldorf

3/21/2018 Units were dispatched to Elgin Ct in Fire 3's First Due, where several callers reported a house on fire. Units arrived on scene to a working fire throughout three floors and the roof of a single-family, split-level dwelling, all occupants reported safely out of the house. An aggressive interior attack suppressed the fire within 20 minutes, the primary and secondary searches proved negative for victims, and good overhaul operations ensured the fire was extinguished. Red Cross was requested to aide 8 displaced occupants, which included small children and infants. The Maryland State Fire Marshall investigated, and determined the fire to be accidental, caused by a burn pit on the back deck. One firefighter sustained a minor burn to their arm, which was treated without transport.

We urge all of our residents to ensure that your homes are equipped with *working, 10 year smoke detectors, in accordance with Maryland State Law.
